Janome Thread Cutters

Janome Thread CutterJanome offers a number of sewing machines and embroidery machines that have automatic thread cutters. An automatic thread cutter is a very nice feature to have on a machine. Sometimes you can program the machine to automatically cut the thread after locking a stitch, between thread changes, etc. In most cases, you will operate the thread cutter with the touch of a button, just because you want to cut your threads.

Along with other modern functions, the thread cutter is a time saver, and once you start using it, it turns into a “must have” feature. Thread cutters will generally allow you to cut both top and bottom threads, with the touch of a button, and continue sewing instantly. I’ve always been one to hold my threads when I start to sew, but this is not required after using the thread cutter.

Janome’s New Limited Edition DC2015 Sewing Machine

Janome DC2015 Limited Edition Sewing MachineAt the beginning of each year since the year 2007, Janome has introduced a limited edition machine with an abundance of features and aptly named the machine DC (plus the appropriate year.) Until 2014, nothing much had changed about the machine…except its color. These machines have been offered over the internet and in brick and mortar stores since Janome introduced its first limited edition machine, the Heart Truth, in 2007. Although the machines are offered to the masses, this dealership has strived to offer a personal touch when marketing the machines both to local customers and out of state customers.

Embroidery Software Install Not Seeing Your Dongle?

USB Embroidery DongleDuring installation of some embroidery software, the installer will ask you to plug in your dongle. Normally the installer sees the dongle and continues installation, but I’ve seen many times when the dongle isn’t verified, and installation cannot proceed. There is an answer. I can’t say that I can solve everyone’s problem, but if you own Janome or Bernina embroidery software, I just might have the answer you are looking for.

Techniques for Embroidering with Metallic Threads

Yenmet Metallic ThreadIf you have not already found Janome’s YouTube channel, you’re probably missing out on a lot of really great videos. From embroidery software to sewing techniques, Janome delivers many highly informational videos, perfect for learning or refreshing your memory.

This month’s webinar was all about embroidering with metallic thread. Not only does the teacher cover different types of metallic threads, she covers the correct needles. The best part was when the instructor  created a design in the Digitizer program. I loved when she “selected fabric” in the software. Did you know that the software will automatically adjust how the design will stitch out by telling it the type of fabric you are using? Awesome!

The WOW in Prewound Bobbins

Janome Prewound BobbinsAs the desire for sewing and machine embroidery grows, so does the technology of machines. For many years I have sewn and embroidered using Janome and Bernina machines. Although stitch quality and embroidery results were nearly identical when comparing both machine brands, a major difference is the bobbins.

With the exception of the Deco embroidery machines, Bernina’s bobbins are metal, while Janome’s bobbins are mostly a plastic/rubber/resin combination, and in the materials of the bobbins lies the conundrum. Bernina’s metal bobbins seemed to hold more thread than Janome’s plastic bobbins, so I would often opt for the Bernina machine when I was embroidering. However, there is a vast difference between the two types of bobbins, metal vs. plastic, when “prewound” bobbins enter the mix.

Janome Institute / Elna Impact 2013

Janome 15000Hi Everyone. I just got back from Janome Institute / Elna Impact 2013. It was at the Rio convention center, which is part of the Rio hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Since Janome is essentially the same company as Elna, Necchi, and Artistic, we were treated to seeing the new products that are coming out from each of these brands. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Janome has a new top-of-the-line machine, the Horizon Memory Craft 15000
  2. Elna now has a expressive 900 model, which is comparable to Janome’s Horizon Memory Craft 12000.
  3. Elna now has a eXpressive 860 model, which is comparable to Janome’s Memory Craft 9900.
  4. Janome’s MBX embroidery software will soon be updated to version 4.5.
  5. Artistic now has a host of embroidery design collections from today’s best-known designers, including Michael Miller Fabrics, Lonni Rossi, Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching, Leah Day of Day Style Designs and the Free Motion Quilting Project, and Stitchique.
  6. The Janome 9900 now has a new wood grain face plate (design panel).
  7. A new buttonhole foot is available for Janome, Elna and Necchi machines that allows for much larger buttons than the standard buttonhole foot.
