Janome 12000 – The Embroidery Hoops!

Extra Large Embroidery HoopWhen we see a new embroidery machine released, we hold our breath for just a minute to see what the manufacturer will include in the purchase price of the machine. Janome never disappoints. I have already mentioned the twenty (20) feet included with the new 12000. Today I would like to mention the new embroidery hoops that are included with the 12000.

Janome has always provided the main hoops with their top of the line machines. The hoops for the 12000 have been refashioned and made much sturdier than before. Not that there was anything wrong or flimsy with the hoops for the other machines, but I think Janome simply felt it was important to engineer the sturdiest tools possible for the new 12000.

There are four hoops available for the new Janome 12000 – the small (free arm) hoop, the medium hoop, the large square hoop, and the extra large rectangle hoop.  All four hoops are included as standard items with the Janome 12000.

Since we, here in the USA, typically refer to sizes of hoops in terms of embroiderable area, I will list these sizes for you The list will be in U.S. inches, and if time permits, I will edit this blog post to include the metric sizes later.

  • Small Hoop – 2 inches by 4 inches
  • Medium Hoop – roughly 5.5 inches by 5.5 inches
  • Large Hoop – 9 inches by 9 inches
  • Extra Large Hoop – 9 inches by nearly 12 inches

Because of the increased sizes of the hoops and the increased size of the arm of the machine, Janome has also included extra clips to fasten to the hoops to keep your project(s) secure.

Hi, do you know if this new machine has the accufill designs that the 11000SE machine has? Thanks,Tina.

The 12000 does not have the Acufil designs or hoop, but there is a quilting program within the embroidery module and the new extra-large hoop can accommodate larger quilting designs.

If you have the Janome software, by upgrading it to the new version - MBX-4.0, you are able to create echo lines around an embroidered motif, or create stippling over your quilt. The machine is really smart. You need to see it to appreciate just how much it actually is capable of doing.

Is there a 5" x 7" hoop compatible with the Janome 12000?

b.gottier on 6/25/14 @ 12:15pm

There is a 5.5" by 5.5", and a 9.1" x 9.1", but not a 5" x 7".

I know this post is old, and my comment new - but Janome does now offer a 5x7 hoop for the Janome 12000, it is 140mm x 180mm (5.5" x 7"). It is called the RE18.

How do you keep your quilt in the hoop?

b.gottier on 9/11/15 @ 8:45am

Terry, you would use sticky back stabilizer, and stick the stabilizer to the hoop itself. It's kind of hard to describe, but if you search around the internet for a video, or come in to Temecula Valley Sewing Center sometime, you'll see how easy it is.

I find trying to quilt anything with 3 layer agony .. I am ready to sell the damn machine. You cannot easily do any quilting The pieces will not stay together no matter how much extra nonsense you try. An hr spent trying to hoop for 3 minute stitch out does ones head in.. This machine is for single layer embroidery only unless you are willing to literally hurt your hands pushing the hops together and then tightening the screw.. All done pick it up an hr later and out it pops on the way to the machine. makes you want to cry and through the machine into the ocean.. The end.

Charmaine, I think you ought to try calling the shop sometime and see if Aileen is here and has time to talk. She'll either tell you the right way to do what you're doing, or give you the go-ahead to throw the machine into the ocean :)

I have the 5x7 hoop for the 120000 but it does not show up as a choice on my 12000. How do I make that happen?
