In the last few weeks we have received phone calls and in-store customer inquiries about straight stitch plates for Janome sewing machines. Not unlike other sewing machine manufacturers, Janome makes an affordable straight stitch plate for a number of their machines. Unlike many other sewing machine manufacturers, however, Janome includes a straight stitch foot with their straight stitch plates.
Temecula Valley Sewing Center has carried the straight stitch foot/plate for the MC6600 for quite some time, and we now stock the straight stitch foot/plate that will fit the following machines: Jem Gold 3, Jem Platinum 720, Jem Platinum 760, Magnolia 7318, Magnolia 7330, 3050DC, DC2010, Heart Truth (HT2008), Thread Banger (TB-30) and the DC4030. These machine models use the same stitch plate. This particular style straight stitch plate will also fit some other Janome models, as well as some Elna and Kenmore models. Call us if you’d like to know if we have your straight stitch plate in stock.
When you are constructing quilt blocks containing half-square triangle units or you are working with lightweight fabrics such as batiste, silk charmeuse, organza, etc., a straight stitch plate might be just the solution to keep your fabric from being “eaten” by your needle and feed dogs. We notice that customers who complain of this problem may often time have a dull needle, but when that isn’t the case, a straight stitch plate will give your fabric the support it needs to stay on top of the needle plate where it belongs.
While it is great to have a straight stitch plate for straight stitch applications, one needs to remember to change the stitch plate back to the zig zag plate before sewing any stitch that has a width greater than zero, to prevent damage to the stitch plate or bobbin case. The timing of a machine can even slip if this happens.
If you know you are going to be taking a workshop or performing a stitch pattern where a straight stitch plate is recommended or required, and you know you are going to need the plate, we are here to help you. If we have the plate in stock, we will gladly hold it for you in our “will call” area. If you need a straight stitch plate that we do not have in stock and would like us to order it for you, please remember, it takes about a week from the day we order the plate for it to arrive at our store.
