I don’t know what happened but Temecula seems to be going crazy about sewing! We’ve been teaching Beginning Sewing for years at Temecula Valley Sewing Center, and in the past it was sometimes difficult to get a sufficient number of students to commit to the class schedule. In the last couple of months however, we’ve been overwhelmed with people wanting to learn to sew. Because beginning sewing students require constant attention, we limit the class to 6 students per series. It would make no sense to hold the class at another location/facility to accommodate additional students, so quite a few people are often disappointed to discover the series is full.
The Beginning Sewing series encompasses all of the basic techniques related to sewing, but that’s not all. Students learn about sewing tools and how they relate to garment construction. Each student is measured, individual patterns are drafted from a master pattern, alterations are made to the pattern, fabric is prepared, cut and stitched to yield a complete set of pajamas.
Most of us have body type/size issues. Although it is usually less expensive to purchase garments, learning to alter a pattern (as presented in class,) to fit your specific body type and size allows you to create a perfect fit. Because our bodies change from year to year, it is simple to remeasure yourself and make any adjustments. The final result of creating a fit for your specific body type/size, is a garment that others think was tailored especially for you…not an ill fitting garment that looks home made.
Brian and I had been discussing the possibility of holding another Beginning Sewing Series during the day (on a weekday), and already have people indicating they are absolutely taking it, so I have scheduled two new Beginning Sewing 10-week series, one during the day and the other for evening. The new daytime class begins on Friday, February 11, 2011, at 10AM. The evening series will commence on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 5:30PM. Both new series have been posted on our calendar.
If you have been wanting to take a beginning sewing class with a focus on garment making, check your schedule and if either series dates/times work for you, come down to Temecula Valley Sewing Center or call right away. You may pay for the class in person, or call us with your credit card info. If you elect to pay over the phone, we will email the supply list to you. These new series are going to fill up fast, and there’s really no time to wait.
